SKILLS |
I have been using computers since the early 1980s and am familiar with most of the modern systems. I am a fast and enthusiastic learner. My main experience has been with Microsoft Windows and RedHat Linux (including Fedora). I can use most Windows applications including Microsoft Office and AutoCAD. In addition I have been programming since the early 1980s. The languages that I currently use include C++ (including MFC), C, JavaScript, HTML (including CSS and XHTML), Matlab, PHP, MySQL and have used numerous other languages including Fortran, Pascal, Basic, Assembly (8085, Z80, PIC, 68000, x86, mmx), Perl (including CGI and XML), etc. I am familiar with all the PC hardware and have built and repaired numerous PCs including setting up and configuring networks, both hardware and software sides, which have included wired and wireless, Windows Server 2000 and 2003 and Linux Servers.nnI was the system administrator and webmaster for the Signal and Image Processing Group?s (SIPG) three servers (the web-server, intranet server and file-store), at the University of Bath, from Summer 2000 until December 2002. Currently I am the Webmaster of several sites including www.NickBits.co.uk and www.ThatchamHistoricalSociety.org.uk. nnI am a competent electronic engineer with the majority of my training and experience being with communications and digital technology. In addition I am also a keen historian and am a member of the Thatcham Historical Society of which I am on the committee, run the website and produce and edit the newsletter. I am also a keen nature (wildlife and landscape) photographer.
